This chapter develops practical skills for working confidently with real data. Through experimental and survey examples, we inspect, check, correct, reshape, label, transform, and explore data using pivot tables and graphs.

Data is at the centre of data science. Too often, teaching starts with tools and methods, so real data can feel like a shock. Real datasets are often messy, unevenly structured, and full of decisions.
