Taming Summaries

Your data analysis usually starts with an exploratory stage. This includes checking the data quality and can start even before you review the objectives of your study. If you are collecting data in stages, then explore each stage as soon as possible.

This is a period of learning about the data and looking at oddities or extremes, zeros and missing values.

We use numerical and graphical summaries to investigate these features. We may also add new columns to make important distinctions visible or to create meaningful groups.
